2013 Golf Season Off to a Strong Start

Bluejay Golfers Take Second at St. Francis Invite
JOLIET, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's golf team fired a 304 to place second at the University of St. Francis Fall Classic.

The Bluejays' one-day total was just six shots behind the tournament winner, the Lewis University B team (298). Elmhurst's B team placed 16th with a 350.

Gavin Lux paced the Bluejays with a top-five finish. Lux shot a two-over par 73 to tie for fourth place. William Hoff and John Carroll each shot a 76 to tie for 13th place. Sam Slusher rounded out the Bluejays' team score with a 79, good for 32nd place.

Jordan Jensen led the B team with an 83, tying for 54th place in the process. C.J. Beisswanger shot an 86 to tie for 62nd place while Jake Briscoe carded an 89 to tie for 73rd place. Jon Gill finished with a 92 to place 79th.

Elmhurst competes at the Carthage College Fall Invitational on September 13-14.


Men's Golf Team Has Strong Showing at Aurora Invite

AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's golf team opened the 2013 fall season by placing fourth at the Aurora University Fall Invitational.

Elmhurst totaled a 629 over two 36 holes to take home fourth. Carthage won the team title with a 612, edging Wheaton by three strokes (615). Carthage's "B" squad placed third with a 625. Elmhurst's "B" team added a ninth-place finish with a 668.

Kyle Brenkman scored a top-10 finish to lead the Bluejays. Brenkman carded a 78 on round one before firing a 76 in the second round to enter the clubhouse with a 154, tying for eighth place in the process. Sean Lenchner and Wyatt Stickney both totaled a 158 to tie for 17th-place. Both golfers shot back-to-back 79s in each round. Jeremy Yoder finished one stroke behind with a 159 to tie for 21st place. Yoder carded a 79 in the first round and then shot an 80 in round two. Tyler Beyak rounded out the Bluejays' team score with a 166 (85-81), tying for 40th place.

Elmhurst's "B" team was led by William Hoff. Hoff tied for 11th place by shooting a 155. Hoff totaled a 79 in round one and then matched Brenkman's total of 76 in round two. Jordan Jensen totaled a 167 (88-79) to place 43rd while John Carroll shot a 168 (85-83) to tie for 46th place. Sam Slusher finished with a 178 (90-88) to tie for 60th place while C.J. Beisswanger shot a 186 (95-91) to place 70th.

The Bluejays compete at the Midwest Region Classic on September 8-9.
